Cross Border – Hackathon (Chicago/Toronto)

26/Feb/2016 @ 05:30 PM 28/Feb/2016 @ 04:00 PM Chicago and Toronto
For the 1st time ever, the Department of Homeland Security, State Department, the US Chamber of Commerce, Dickinson-Wright and Northof41.org have come together with the Tech Communities in Chicago and Toronto in order to develop APIs which will allow entrepreneurs to develop software solutions in order to simplify the importing/exporting process.

This is a friendly competition between hackathon teams in both cities to create the most unique apps. We have also assembled a top notch list of corporate partners with Amazon, Salesforce.com, IBM, Microsoft in order to have the most cutting edge platforms for teams to utilize as part of their project submissions over the entire weekend.

The Hackathon will take place in Chicago and Toronto simultaneously on the weekend of Feb 26th, 2016 until Feb 28th, 2016. This event will start at 5:30pm (CST), 6:30pm (EST) on the Friday night. Video will be streamed between both locations during the hackathon.

Currently, software used to process imports/exports provides only limited access to a handful of stakeholders. Developing an API, will allow software that is designed for small to medium sized businesses to cost effectively import and export goods.

Create an API (Application Programming Interface) that will allow any computer programmer to build their own software program to integrate with the DHS and CBP computer system. This creates opportunities to increase the speed of processing the paperwork as it relates to importing and exporting goods. Your task for this challenge will require you to build an App (Mobile or Web-based) that will incorporate APIs to submit import/export information to the Department of Homeland Security while at the same time incorporate this information into another 3rd party program such as Amazon, Salesforce.com, Microsoft Bizspark or IBM’s Bluemix Platform

Winning teams will be awarded cash and prizes totaling over $15,000
